Nothing Is Funny
The title of this blog is a bit jarring but humor me (see what I did there). What is funny to me? To be honest I have no idea. Humor is nuanced, some people have a specific type of humor which they are particularly subscitble to. Some examples include self-depricatoing humor, physical comedy, wordplay, surreal humor, dark humor. People can usually associate themselves with a particularly category but I simply can’t. I think it’s because I laugh at anything or anyone. Jokes that are distinctly unfunny are amusing because no one reacts. No matter how stupid the joke is if you smile I will smile. I start laughing if you laugh. I would look like this image.
Though something that can make me laugh is pets. Something about an animal making their owners angry because they did something uncharacteristically stupid and yet the owner still sharing the same amount of love for the pet is wholesome and incredibly funny to me. Mostly its because of the endless frustration that owners must face on a daily basis. For example the video below.

Perhaps it’s because I often disregard the opinions of others all too much. I don’t care for the judgemental thoughts of people I don’t know, the only opinions I care about are friends, family and authority figures. Mostly because I want to maintain a good relationship with them as they actually carry influence over your life. Essentially I’m used to making myself look stupid. I’m okay with other people laughing at me because it makes them happy.
Though sometimes I dislike jokes that go too far. Such as the death of a recently departed loved one or something similar. Jokes that take advantage of someone while they are emotionally vunerable are no longer jokes but insults.
It’s also that smiling and laughing even when your mind is tumultuous is actually beneficial. A Norwegian Study published in April of 2016 found that women with strong senses of humor lived longer than others. In fact, they were 73% less likely to die from heart disease and 83% less likely to die from infection. Men with a better sense of humor seemed to be more protected from infection only, with 74% less risk of death associated with high scores in humor. So the more you laugh the less likely you die. I don’t really feel the need to die so I will probably continue acting the way I am.
I don’t necessarily put myself in a particular type of humor, I just laugh at anything or everything. Maybe that’s why the action of nothing is amusing to me.
